An Olive Branch Offers Good Health

We’re all familiar with olives, the delectable fruit of the Olea europaea tree, in providing us tasty hors d’oeuvres, and its pressed oil used for cooking, salad dressings, or dipping focaccia into.
Less well known, however, are the powerful health benefits of its leaf. For thousands of years, olive trees have been revered in the Mediterranean region and used as a natural remedy for preventing or overcoming colds and flus (often combined with Oregano Oil for this purpose). Olive leaf extract is a powerful antimicrobial and has been shown to prevent a variety of viruses and bacteria from replicating.
Olive leaf may also help to lower blood sugar levels by improving insulin release from the pancreas, and improving glucose uptake by the body’s cells. Traditionally, it has also been used for helping to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
Following a Mediterranean-style diet, or incorporating in aspects of it including the leaf, fruit and oil of the amazing olive tree, is a tasty and healthfully good idea!
