Ashwagandha – India’a Ancient Herb for Anxiety
Clinical Herbalist Reviewed on July 15, 2011 by Paulina Nelega, RH
According to the ancient healing system of Ayurveda, Ashwagandha has been chosen as the premier herb for imbalances of ‘vata’ for thousands of years. These are conditions that generally correspond to the nervous system. Ashwagandha helps to calm the mind, balance the nervous system, and promote a general sense of wellbeing.
Ashwagandha is considered an adaptogen – herbs and nutrients that strengthen overall vitality and vigor, and enhance stamina. It is sometimes called “Indian Ginseng” because of its similarity to Asian Ginseng (Panax ginseng) in its action and effects. Panax, however, is not suitable for everyone as it can be overly stimulating. For this reason, Ashwagandha may be more suitable for general and longterm use.
Ashwagandha can be very helpful for easing anxiety, especially in combination with other adaptogenic and nervine herbs such as those included in Anxiety & Stress Essentials™.
Ashwagandha helps to:
• Nourish and strengthen the nervous system
• Calm feelings of anxiety
• Support a positive mood
• Promote a state of relaxation
• Strengthen overall vitality and enhance stamina
