Does the tantalizing smell of Cinnamon remind you of cozy fires and mulled cider? Umm, me too. Oh, and warm-from-the-oven cinnamon buns!
Well, that same spice that smells so inviting can help with high blood sugar levels, too. Cinnamon has been shown to reduce fasting blood glucose levels by up to 29%. That’s good news for anyone with diabetes type 2! And you don’t need all that much, either: 1/2 to 1 teaspoon a day can do the trick.
If you’re taking blood sugar medication, it’s important to you let your doctor know if you plan to use therapeutic levels of Cinnamon. The two together can have an additive effect and might cause your blood sugar to drop too low. You’ll want to monitor your sugar levels so that you and your doctor can adjust your medication accordingly.
