Essential Oils for Cold & Flu – Great Natural Hand-Sanitizers, Too!

Now that school’s back in, ‘tis the season when colds & flu start to make the rounds! Protect yourself and your family this fall and winter with powerful essential oils such as Oregano Oil, an excellent all-purpose antimicrobial and immunosupportive.
Ravintsara is possibly the best antiviral essential oil for colds and flu. To help disinfect the air in your home and bedroom, make a blend of the following oils and put a few drops in some water in a diffuser (a nebulizer is the most effective way to disperse essential oils):
• Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora) 5 drops
• Melissa (Melissa officinalis) 5 drops
• Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct cineol) 4 drops
• Thyme (Thymus vulgaris ct linalool) 3 drops
• Pine (Pinus sylvestris) 3 drops
• Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) 6 drops
Essential oils are one of our most powerful, natural antiviral supports – all the more important since prescription antibiotics are not effective against viruses.
You can use the above blend in steam inhalations, in the bath, to massage the soles of your feet with (a great way to apply if you feel you may be coming down with something), and even as a natural hand-sanitizer. For massage and topical applications, be sure to dilute to 3%-5% in a carrier oil such as almond oil.
Other tips to avoid catching a bug? Frequent, thorough hand washing and a HEPA air purifier, especially in your sleeping area.
