Natural Therapies: Cardiologists Examine Alternatives to Halt High Blood Pressure

Clinical Herbalist Reviewed on September 30, 2011 by Paulina Nelega, RH

Some interesting tidbits in today’s Science Daily on natural therapies that lower blood pressure, as discussed by a leading cardiologist. You might be surprised to learn what the “shining star” was!

According to cardiologists Drs. John Bisognano and Kevin Woolf, the “shining star” among supplements is… coenzyme Q10: “Patients with hypertension tend to have lower levels of the enzyme, and a meta-analysis — an overarching analysis of past studies — found that treatment with coenzyme Q10 supplements significantly reduced blood pressure.”

Some other effective supplements and therapies include:
▪ potassium (hey, let’s hear it for Dandelion – naturally high in potassium!)
▪ meditation & Qi Gong
▪ mindful breathing
▪ a hand-held, gripping device that patients grip and squeezing at different levels of resistance, in response to electronic cues (high-tech stress relief!)
