Passion Flower – for Anxiety, Improved Mood & Better Sleep
Clinical Herbalist Reviewed on February 23, 2012 by Paulina Nelega, RH
One of the most gorgeous of flowers – even a little ‘other-worldly’ in appearance – is the beautiful Passion Flower. Though the flower is captivating to behold, its leaves and roots are the source of its many medicinal properties, including powerful support for anxiety.
Initial trials have demonstrated that Passion Flower performs as well as the anti-anxiety drug Oxazepam for generalized anxiety disorder, with fewer short-term side effects.
Passion Flower is mildly antidepressant and mood-elevating, due to the presence of natural MAO-inhibitor compounds in its leaves and roots. It is also excellent for insomnia; it has been shown to both reduce the amount of time it takes to fall asleep, as well as help one to stay asleep.
