From Natural WellBeing
Cystine is a sulfur-containing amino acid which is made up of two amino acid molecules of cysteine. It is found in large amounts in animal skeletal tissue, connective tissue, and in the digestive enzymes, and is obtained in the diet through high-quality protein sources.
Cystine is needed for the utilization of Vitamin B6 which is vital for many metabolic processes in the body. Cystine may improve wound healing time and may also facilitate tissue healing in burns. Cystine supplements may also help in conditions with increased mucus production such as chronic bronchitis and cystic fibrosis.
Cystine may promote insulin production and should therefore only be used under medical supervision with conditions involving blood sugar imbalance or if on any medications to regulate blood sugar. Always consult your doctor before using if you have any health condition or if you are taking any medications. Pregnant and breastfeeding women, and young children, should use only under the guidance of a medical professional.
