Orange Fruit Extract
The many parts of an orange from its orange fruit extract right up to the orange peel provide essential oil for use in both cosmetics and in other beauty products.
The orange fruit extract (Citrus aurantium dulcis) is extracted from the sweet orange fruits. It belongs to the biological product class and commonly used in various skin-conditioning agent and as ingredients on fragrance.
Orange is a citrus fruit that is a source of vitamins. Orange is round and orange-colored fruit growing on tree that reaches up to ten meters high. The tree has dark green leaves and it has small white flowers. It smells very sweet that attracts insects such as bees.
The orange has a strong skin, and its fruit is divided in many segments inside. Usually, there are ten segments inside an orange, and sometimes even more. The seed inside the orange is called pips, and orange trees can be grown out of these seeds. Other than the seeds, the tree can be planted also using the cuttings.
Orange fruit extract is an essential food source in many countries around the world. It is a common source of Vitamin C. It can be mixed also as a refreshing drink. The fruit can last for long period when stored properly.
History and Origin
The sweet orange trees, where the orange fruit extract came from, were brought to Spain, Portugal, and Italy coming from India in 1400s. In Italy at that time, only the sour oranges are available for growing. Oranges were brought to South America, the United States, Australia and Africa from Europe. These countries are growing oranges for commercial purposes.
There are many types of oranges. The most common is the one called “Valencia” orange. It originates from Spain and also growing in Australia and Africa. It is among the best and important commercial oranges.
An orange fruit extract on the 1700s is made into a jam called marmalade. It is said to have been first made to heal sickness, although marmalade has been produced many years back in Portugal. The term marmalade means quince jam was derived from the word fruit marmelo, which is Portuguese.
An oil from orange fruit extract has linolenic acid is used for food because it is said to be effective in reducing the level of cholesterol in human body. Oil from the dried peel came from immature fruits is useful in producing food flavoring. The citrus species in general contain active ingredients such as vitamin C, acids, flavonoids, and volatile oils. It also has coumarins that help to sensitize skin to sunlight.
The Orange Fruit Extract is useful treating high cholesterol and kidney stones. It can prevent stroke and high blood pressure, and also prostate cancer. This is due to its content of vitamin C. Other research found that it might help in curing asthma due to its antioxidant capability from vitamin C.
The known side effects of orange fruit extract are, it may cause convulsion, colic, or even death. With pregnant and breast-feeding women, it can be safe taken along with the usual amount of food.
