Raynaud's Disease (RP)
Raynaud's disease (RP) is a problem which makes some parts of your body numb and cool in response to the trigger of cold temperature and the bouts of stress. It mainly includes fingers, toes and the tip of your nose and ears. In this case, the smaller arteries, which supply blood to your skin marrow, limit the process of blood circulation to the diseased parts. Women suffer more from this disease than men. In fact, people living in colder regions are also more prone to this illness. A poor supply of the blood to the different parts of body results in skin color changes, cold fingers and toes and the occurrence of sores and lesions which do not go easily.
This blood-related disease is caused by an overreaction of the blood vessels in response to cold temperature and the strokes of stress. When a person sits in cold atmosphere then the blood vessels in his body become narrow and reduce the supply of blood to the fingers and toes. There are mainly two types of this blood illness - primary and secondary Raynaud's disease. The first one is the most common form of this blood problem and it mainly affects the fingers and toes. Basically, a genetic or hereditary link gives rise to this disease. Women and people living in colder regions are more at the risk of this illness. However, the secondary form of this poor circulation illness is more severe than the primary one. Some of the common causes of this form are-
1.Smoking 2.Eating disorders like Bulimia and anorexia 3.Hashimoto's Thyroiditis 4.Scleroderma, a disease which gives rise to the hardening of the connective tissues 5.Lupus 6.Rheumatoid arthritis 7.Carpal tunnel syndrome 8.The diseases which affect the arteries like atherosclerosis 9.Excessive use of beta-blockers 10.Some chemotherapy agents and the use of cold and flu medications.
