White Tea Extract
White Tea is produced from the buds and young leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant. The buds and leaves are left to naturally dry on the plant in sunlight through a process called wilting. Wilting allows for the most natural form of drying to occur. The buds and leaves are then picked and are lightly processed. White tea is the least altered or processed tea in comparison to other teas, due to being so lightly processed, white tea is able to keep its natural nutrients. The unopened buds of the white tea plant form small, silver, hair like needles giving the plant a white appearance, hence the given name “white tea”. White tea contains polyphenol. Polyphenol is an antioxidant with numerous health benefits. It aids the body in lowering cholesterol, soothing inflammation, controlling sugar levels, boosting metabolism and stimulating the immune system to be able to fight off disease.
History of White Tea
White tea is originally from China, known to grow mostly in the Fujian Province, and was unknown to the rest of the world for a long time. It dates back to the T'ang Dynasty. White tea was expensive and was therefore used only by royalty and nobleman. Over the years as the production of white tea grew, it become more accessible to others as well. Not much has changed since the first production of white tea. China remains the largest producer of white tea today.
Common Uses of White Tea
White tea extract is useful for slowing virus infections and can be taken on a daily bases. It may also be used in toothpaste as it works to stop dental plaque from building up. White tea extract is just as effective in slowing down tooth decay and eliminating bad breath by killing off the bacteria which tends to cause these problems. White tea is clear in color as opposed to other teas and does not cause any discoloration of the teeth. Studies have shown that white tea extract reduces the number of fat cells being made and breaks down fat in existing cells, creating the potential to reduce fat in the body. It acts as a stimulant in encouraging the body to burn fat while boosting up the metabolism. White tea contains caffeine and is an ideal substitute for unnatural sugar drinks. White tea has a positive effect on the skin as it slows down the ageing process by slowing the breakdown of elastin and collagen. By working against free radicals, white tea is able to prevent sun damage to the skin, as it is able to restore sun damaged skin. Mixing a few drops of white tea extract with water makes a great tonic for the face. Being able to help reduce the sugar in the body, white tea extract is beneficial for those with diabetes.
As white tea contains caffeine it is recommend to lower caffeine intake if taking white tea extract daily. White Tea is not recommended for those who may be sensitive to caffeine and may cause irritability, restlessness and sleep problems. As with everything else, moderation is needed when taking white tea extract.
