Description
What is Bilberry? (Vaccinium myrtillus)
For centuries, Bilberry has been used as both a food and health supplement. As a food, it's a popular fruit for pies and jams and is enjoyed much like its cousin, the Blueberry (in fact, it's also called European Blueberry).
Bilberries contain natural substances called anthocyanins (or anthocyanosides), powerful antioxidants that help to protect us from damaging free-radicals. Anthocyanins also strengthen blood vessel walls and may prevent blood platelets from sticking together (which can decrease the chance of blood clots).
Anthocyanins have been found to increase the production of rhodopsin, a pigment in the retina of the eye that helps it adapt to changes in light, and which can thereby improve night vision. This is the basis of its anecdotal use by British pilots during the Second World War, when their night vision was reputed to have improved upon regular consumption of Bilberry.

Question:
will I see any results after 30 days?Asked on 1/27/2012 by San Diego Boy from Monroe,MI1 answer
Answer:
As the Bilberry is all natural it is hard to pin point when you will see results. Most customers start to see results anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks as it takes time for the supplement to be absorbed into your system.Answered on 1/30/2012 by Coreena
Question:
Hello- I read that bilberry extract might help cataracts in cats. I rescued a kitty that's less than 2 years old and my vet says he has cataracts in both eyes (likely genetic)but that they are not terrible-terrible at this point. I'd love to see if Bilberry might help the cataracts NOT get worse, or if it might at least slow down the process, so my question to you is this- would the bilberry extract you sell be safe to administer to a cat and if so what dosage might you recommend? You indicate 20-40 drops 2 or 3 times a day but I think that dosage might be suggested for a person/owner....though I might be wrong. This sweet kitty weighs right at 8 lbs. Thanks so much for any help you might offer. -sAsked on 1/2/2012 by Anonymous from brentwood, tn1 answer
Answer:
Bilberry is commonly used as an all natural supplement for eye problems in pets. It is rich in the antioxidant anthocyanosides -- the red pigments that are beneficial in ophthalmology and vascular diseases
Yes this dosage is based on an adult person taking the supplement internally. For a pet weighing in at 8lbs we would suggest 1 drop 2x per day based on lowering the dose for an average adult weight of 154lbs using 20 drops.Answered on 1/6/2012 by Mgr Customer Care from CSR Office
Question:
is bilberry used for any kind of eye diease like glacoma?Asked on 11/21/2011 by Liz from Minot,ND1 answer
Answer:
Bilberry can be helpful for improving night vision (the ability of the eye to adapt to changes in light) and for protecting the eye from age-related (free-radical) damage, including cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.Answered on 11/22/2011 by Anonymous
Question:
Is bilberry extract recommended for the children who have vision issue, e.g. 10 year old child?Asked on 10/15/2011 by Anonymous1 answer
Answer:
Though Bilberry would be fine to use with a 10-year-old (in an age-adjusted dose), the benefit of using it depends upon what the vision issue is; if it is related to problems with seeing things in the distance (myopia) or close-up (presbyopia), it is not specifically recommended for this. It is most indicated for improving night vision (the ability of the eye to adapt to changes in light) and for protecting the eye from age-related (free-radical) damage, including cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.Answered on 10/24/2011 by Customer Care from Vancouver, BC

Question:
What help does bilberry do for ears?Asked on 10/3/2011 by Nehesign from Aurora, CO1 answer
Answer:
Bilberries contain natural substances called anthocyanosides. This is the active ingredient that is believed to be responsible for this berry's health benefits.
These anthocyanosides have excellent antioxidant ability. Antioxidants scavenge after free radicals (those damaging particles in your body) helping to prevent or even reverse damage to your body's cells. These antioxidants have been reported to help prevent numerous health issues, including overall ear health.Answered on 10/4/2011 by Customer Care from CSR Office
