I was looking for something to treat my dog for her Cushings without the usual chemo drugs. While searching on the internet i found an article on cushings in horses being treated with this with good results, so I thought I'd try it. I had been giving her the SUprglans, and that was helping a little, but when I added this to her daily supplements, I noticed a marked improvement in her symptoms. The only thing that hasnt gotten better is her big belly. I highly recommend this. I give her 1/3 dosage, since I wasnt clear whether it was meant for dogs or humans in its dosage.. I also give her coq10 and magnolia bark.

Traditionally known as "Monk's Pepper" as it was thought to help diminish the libido of monks and nuns, Chaste Tree (Vitex) has been used for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. In modern day herbal medicine Vitex is primarily used for helping to regulate the menstrual cycle (especially when they are under 28 days) and relieving symptoms of PMS including swollen and painful breasts, bloating, and mood swings. It can also be beneficial for helping to re-establish normal cycles after coming off of birth control pills, for supporting fertility, and for relieving menopause symptoms, including hot flashes.
Chaste Tree berry extract is considered to strengthen progesterone production and rebalance the ratios of estrogen and progesterone. It is beneficial for cycles that are progesterone-deficient, especially when due to insufficient development of the corpus luteum ("yellow body"). The corpus luteum is what is left behind in the ovary after the mature egg has been released at ovulation, and its role is to produce progesterone.
Chaste Tree acts upon the pituitary gland, where it has been shown to increase dopamine, with a subsequent decrease in prolactin and increase in luteinizing hormone (LH). High prolactin levels are associated with lowered progesterone levels, tender and painful breasts, and decreased libido. Luteinizing hormone is responsible for healthy maturation of the developing egg within the ovary, its release from the ovary (ovulation), and maintenance of the corpus luteum after ovulation. Improving LH promotes a more fully developed corpus luteum and therefore progesterone production.
