Description
What is Horsetail (Equisetum arvense)?
Horsetail is an herb that is classified as a "diuretic".
A diuretic herb helps to increase the production of urine, which helps the body get rid of water.
This class of herb is helpful in people with swelling of the hands and feet, as well as pain with urination.
Horsetail is one of the oldest living plants on Earth, and was once as tall as trees. It is an ancient herb, used often in the times of ancient Rome and Greece to reduce water retention and inflammation.
In North America, this herb was a traditional native remedy to support the strength of the kidneys and bladder. Horsetail contains a great number of bioflavonoids, which may be responsible for its diuretic properties.
Inflammation of the bladder and urinary tract can cause extreme discomfort and pain. Horsetail is a traditional, natural herb that may help reduce the feeling of bloating and promote a better frequency of urination.
Horsetail is also a major source of silica, a special substance that supports the growth of strong teeth, hair, and fingernails.
This herb has been used since the times of Ancient Rome and it's now available in a convenient and potent extract for you to try.

Question:
I hear claims on some of these products to help grow hair and thicken hair. Will taking these make hair grow on something you don't want hair on..like my face?Asked on 1/26/2012 by Anonymous1 answer
Answer:
This product used on it's own is not helpful in promoting new hair growth. Our Hair Essentials: http://www.naturalwellbeing.com/products/hair-growth is formulated to go within your blood system and directly to your scalp only regrowing hair on your scalp. If you are experiencing thinning eyelashes or eyebrows it can help to promote new thicker hair in those areas.Answered on 1/30/2012 by Coreena
Question:
I suffer from PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) which causes an over-production of androgens in my system. These excess hormones are casuing my hair to thin. I am on the birth control pill to help lessen the cysts, hormones and side effects of the syndrome (ie. facial hair, weight gain, thinning head hair etc.). I also have a genetic lymphatic disorder which causes my ankles and feet to swell (not a result of or related to any heart or kidney problems). I take HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) for this, but on an "as needed" basis, not daily. Would horsetail and the Essential Hair system work for these disorders? I find it kind of neat that there is one herbal tincture to possibly combat BOTH of my completely unrelated disorders! Am I dreaming?Asked on 12/25/2011 by Intrigued from Winnipeg, MB1 answer
Answer:
Our Hair Essentials ( http://www.naturalwellbeing.com/products/hair-growth ) does help to reduce inflammation in the hair follicles, helping your hair grow thicker and healthier. While there is some Horsetail in the Hair Essentials formula, if you are trying to manage swelling, I would suggest using both supplements, so that you can select the dosage of Horsetail that is most effective for you. You will not at the following link that the recommended dosage is a range, so that you can adjust to the dosage that you need: http://www.naturalwellbeing.com/products/horsetail#directionsAnswered on 12/26/2011 by Diane from CRS office

It's been said that horsetail helps with hair growth. Do you agree with this?Asked on 11/26/2011 by Anonymous1 answer
Answer:
Horsetail is one of the products we do recommend for hair growth. We carry Horsetail as a tincture, and this is also part of our Hair Essentials formula ( http://www.naturalwellbeing.com/products/hair-growth ).
Horsetail is rich in silica which strengthens nails, skin, and hair. Silica also helps build stronger bones and teeth by improving calcium assimilation in the body.Answered on 11/28/2011 by Anonymous
Question:
I have been anemic for several years now. Once it was verified, my Dr put me on iron supplements with vitamin C. I recently went in and also found out that my kidney is not functioning at it's fullest potential, and my hair grows EXTREMELY slow. So I'm soon to start a kidney cleanse, a blood cleaner, along with eating gluten free, due to constapation issues as well. My question is, am I doing everything I can do help my kidneys, and hopefully grow my hair again? My Dr has been no help in answering my questions.
Thank you.Asked on 10/19/2011 by Anonymous from Plattsmouth, Ne2 answers
Answer:
With concerns of this nature, including kidney function, it is advisable to consult a (holistic) healthcare provider in your local area, such as a professional herbalist or naturopathic doctor, that you can work one-on-one with. They will be able to provide a comprehensive assessment of your situation, from which the most appropriate herbal and other supplement suggestions can be recommended. This is important so that nothing is overlooked, that should be considered in the care of your kidneys and overall health. Horsetail herbal extract has traditionally been used as a kidney supportive herb; however, it may not be the most appropriate, or most effective, remedy for your needs at this time.Answered on 10/25/2011 by Customer Care from Vancouver, BCAnswer:
